Tips to help prevent car theft

  • Always lock your car, even when parking at home.

  • Where possible try to park in a garage or carport.

  • If you have to park on the street, make sure your car is under a streetlight or in a well-lit area.

  • Simple security measures like a steering wheel lock, immobilisers and a car alarm system can be an effective deterrent against thieves.

  • Thieves can steal car keys from people’s homes or bags to access new vehicles with modern security systems. Always keep your valuables and car keys out of sight, including away from your front and back doors at home.

  • Be extra vigilant over weekends and during warmer weather when there are more thefts reported.
