Your home or landlord insurance policy covers the damaged area of your home only and doesn't extend to cover undamaged areas of the home to create a match. This means that cover for the cost of matching paint, carpet, or other features of your home isn't included.
When we repair your home, we'll endeavour to replace any damage with the same colour or product where still available. Often, we're unable to do this due to carpets, fabrics, paints or other features being discontinued or unavailable. If this is the case, we'll provide options in the settlement of your claim. You'll have the option for us to attempt to repair it as close as we can to the existing area or to provide a cash settlement for the damaged area only, allowing you to decide how you want to proceed with the repairs.
Below are some examples to demonstrate how your cover may apply:
- A ceiling in your study requires repainting after water damage: as this is a separate room, your policy will cover the repainting of the study ceiling only. The rest of the ceiling in the home will not be included to create a match.
- Carpet in the main bedroom is damaged after a spill: as this is a separate room, your policy will cover the damage in this room only. The rest of the carpet in the house that is undamaged will not be included to create a match.
- A single roof tile has been damaged in a storm and needs to be replaced: your policy will provide cover for the damaged tile only but will not cover additional undamaged tiles if we are unable to source the exact same tile colour.
- An island benchtop in the kitchen has been damaged with a burn mark from a pot: we will pay to replace the island benchtop if required but will not extend the claim to cover the separate benchtop area that is not damaged in order to create a match.
